Tube Mirrors Redux

Tube Mirrors Redux

2026 Open

Overview

I’m reopening art projects that were abandoned a decade ago and reimagining them with the experience and perspective I’ve gained since. The tube mirrors are first. I’ve gotten so many questions about them over the years that it felt wrong not to give them new life.

Original Notes (2017)

“I was cleaning the shop one day and noticed a piece of clear tubing sitting on a mirror in the middle of the table. As I walked around the table the tubing moved with the mirror in an interesting way. That interaction was the catalyst for this series.”

Notes (2026)

Every once in a while, over the course of the last 10 years, I’ve found myself daydreaming of returning to these mirrors. They were born out of one of the most creative periods of my life. I was a newly minted graduate and had just declined a full-time job offer to carve my own path as an early maker. It seems like forever ago and just yesterday at the same time.

Back then I didn’t have the skills or perspective required to hack it as a full-time maker. I was plagued by perfectionism — which I know now is just procrastination in disguise. Regardless of the reason, I never allowed these mirrors to bloom into the thing I hoped they’d become.

I have unfinished business with these mirrors.

p.s. Thank you to Adam Danielson at DuckTail Inc in Portland Maine for inquiring about these mirrors after all these years. That DM set things in motion. If the future I see in my head becomes reality just know that a message from a stranger made a real difference.
